HueWell Family Care is deeply personal to me. While earning my Pastry Chef certification, my scalp began to break out with painful sores—lesions that I didn’t understand and no one explained. I wore my hair in a natural Afro, thick and coarse with multiple textures, and I didn’t know that daily rinsing, constant moisture, and wearing a chef’s cap without airflow were harming my scalp. A biopsy was taken because even the dermatologist wasn’t sure what it was. When the results came back, I was told it was like having athlete’s foot on my scalp. I was given a prescription—but no education, no prevention plan, no guidance. At the pharmacy, I was told to shave my hair, keep my scalp dry, and apply the cream. That moment changed everything. I’ve never been able to grow my hair out since—and that was over twenty years ago. Through my own research, lived experience, and hard-earned understanding, I realized how often families are left without answers when it comes to melanin-rich skin and textured hair. HueWell exists so no one else has to guess, suffer in silence, or lose something precious simply because trusted guidance was never made for them.​​
